À propos

HEY KIDS! Learn about the magical world of shadow puppets and how to make your own!

In this special Culture Days presentation, Waterwood Theatre will share two instructional videos on the making and use of shadow puppets that will be shared before their event. These family-friendly activities will provide steps to make your own. PLEASE NOTE: These activities require supervision by a responsible adult to assist with cutting cardboard with a knife and plugging in household lighting. We invite children of any age to delight in making puppets and telling stories using a screen and a light.

Downloadable puppet patterns will be made available soon on www.FirstOntarioPAC.ca for the children to use to make puppets for their own productions.

As a culmination of these activities, Waterwood Theatre will present two five minute shadow puppet pieces as well as host a sharing of their creative ideas and a short question and answer period.

WATERWOOD THEATRE is a touring Theatre for Young Audience company that has produced 14 original puppet theatre productions that have toured across Canada. The company has reached an audience of hundreds of thousands of children in schools, theatres and festivals. Waterwood has produced shows such as We Otter Save Wetlands, The Conserving Kingdom and A Mountain of Garbage promoting environmental education. Mouse Tales, Tales From An Empty Fridge and O is for Ogre promoted literacy, empathy and fun. Waterwood also offers workshops on puppetry, script development and puppet making.

Presented by the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre and St. Catharines Culture as part of Culture Days STC.

FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre

Each Year the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre hosts Culture days Activities.

The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre is a large purpose-built cultural complex located in downtown St. Catharines, Ontario. It opened in 2015 as the result of a partnership between the City of St. Catharines and Brock University, which share the venue for production, performance and learning purposes. It comprises four separate venues: a 770-seat concert hall (Partridge Hall), 300-seat recital hall, 210-seat multi-purpose dance/theatre venue (Robertson Theatre), and the 199-seat Film House.

The creation of the centre spurred a cultural and economic renaissance in downtown St. Catharines along with its neighbouring Meridian Centre and Brock University's Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts.
