À propos

“(Be)Coming Home” is a community-based art project at Branscombe House produced by Peisen Ding. The title of the project has dual meanings: “Becoming Home” signifies Peisen’s personal journey of finding belonging as a queer immigrant from China; “Coming Home” shows an invitation to the public to engage with the project at the Branscombe House, finding a sense of home. Throughout 2024, the artist will invite local residents to participate as collaborators to tell their definitions of home and co-create a home-like installation through various activities, aiming to build a public sense of an inclusive, shared, and caring community.

This event is part of the "(Be)coming Home" exhibition and includes two free art workshops. These workshops invite the public to learn more about the art project and enjoy hands-on artmaking activities. They will be held from 2-4 pm on September 29th and October 6th at the Atrium in the Richmond Cultural Centre, the same location as the exhibition. No registration is required. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Organisateur

Peisen Ding

Peisen Ding (he/they) is the 2024 Branscombe House Artist-in-Residence. Peisen’s art practice often involves the exploration of urban relationships, for example, relations with other individuals and built environments in Vancouver through photography, painting, and/or whatever medium comes to the process organically. As a queer Chinese immigrant, it is also important for Peisen to discover what life brings when living with different identities and cultures, and how art can show care, love, and courage to others who have similar backgrounds.
