À propos
Join us for a special all-ages workshop to learn more about the Hakka Kirin Chinese unicorn dance. Learn about Hakka culture and the kirin, watch a live dance performance, and take part in an interactive dance workshop where you will get a chance to learn the moves and dance with the unicorns!
This workshop is held in collaboration with Kirin Rising 麒麟革命, the only youth-led Hakka kirin team on the continent that is reviving the rare and unique cultural tradition of kirin dancing 舞麒麟. The kirin, or Chinese unicorn, is a legendary creature of cultural significance to Hakka 客家 ("guest family") people. Led by queer, women, and gender diverse youth, the team practices the kirin dance as a living act of cultural continuity to resist erasure and reconnect with Hakka identity. Kirin Rising aims to foster community participation and create an inclusive environment that welcomes all to engage in this cultural tradition that's at risk of disappearing.
