À propos

Are you the relative of a person from Finland who spoke Swedish? Are your ancestors from the west coast of Finland, from the areas around Korsholm, Jakobstad or Pedersöre? How about Aland, Hango or Ekenas? Does your Finnish last name sound Swedish, or end in a -holm, -berg, -quist, -lund, -strom, or -son? If so, this genealogy workshop/information session is for you! Join us at the Sault Ste. Marie Museum to dive into the culture and history of the Findlandssvesnk; the Swedish-speaking Finns who settled in the Algoma district. Learn about the history of the Swedish language in Finland, the community of Finn Swedes in the Sault and surrounding area, and how to trace your family’s roots through census, church and immigration records in both Canada and Finland. This workshop is a partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Museum and the Swedish-Finnish Historical Society. Unsure if this workshop is relevant to you? Contact the Sault Museum!
