This event honours the 25th anniversary of the monument and Peace Garden in St. Catharines' Rennie Park, emblems of friendship and co-operation between the cities of St. Catharines, Canada and Hiroshima, Japan with their shared hopes for World Peace. This event also commemorates the 79th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings.

The program includes origami crane making, lantern decorating, messages of peace, and the floating of lanterns with a moment of silence. Everyone is welcome, including families with children. Come rain or sun. Please bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket.

Organisateur

Timothy Healey, Robert Nunn, Kaho Nishibu and Nozomu Ozaki

This event is hosted by a like-minded group of St. Catharines residents. The group of citizens include Timothy Healey, Robert Nunn, Kaho Nishibu, and Nozomu Ozaki. Timothy and Robert, among others, have hosted lantern events at the same locations over the years on August 6, the Atomic Bombing Anniversary of Hiroshima. This includes an event in 1999 when a Hiroshima Citizen, Sachiko Ishikawa donated a stone monument as an emblem of friendship and co-operation between the cities of St. Catharines, Canada and Hiroshima, Japan with their shared hopes for World Peace. At the same time, the Peace Pole and the Peace Garden, honouring those who contributed to the creation, were built around this monument.
