Join us for the opening of the exhibition, Beyond the Horizon this Saturday, September 25th from 11-4 pm! A tour of the exhibit will be offered by curator Karl Hipol at 2 pm on September 25th.

Beyond the Horizon is an expression that encourages us to consider what is “farther than the possible limit of sight, beyond what we can foresee, know or anticipate.”1 It is both visual - what we see - and conceptual - what we know. The horizon as a metaphor provides us with an opportunity to challenge and evaluate our own ways of knowing. The artists in this exhibition expand conventional uses of materials and explore modes of making through collaboration with other artists and the land.

• Wear masks. Face coverings are mandatory (effective August 25, 2021).

• Compete a Health Check. Do not visit if you are feeling unwell.

• Complete our contact tracing procedure upon arrival.

• Maintain social distance. The Gordon Smith Gallery has a limit of 40 people visiting the Gallery and Lobby to assist you with this.

• In accordance to provincial health orders (as of September 13, 2021), General Admission to the Gordon Smith Gallery is exempted from the Vaccine Card protocol.

Beyond the Horizon is hosted by the Gordon Smith Gallery from September 25 to February 24th, 2022.

Gallery Hours are: Thursday 4-7 pm and Saturday 11-4 pm

Artists for Kids

Artist for Kids is a unique, self-sustaining art education venture operated by the North Vancouver School District in British Columbia. Our Innovative partners with more than 50 of Canada's most prominent artists, art educators and the community at large provides inspiring, highly relevant education experiences for thousand of young people annually. We have enhanced art education in schools, encouraged students to pursue their own artistic abilities, helped even more people discover great Canadian Art, acquired a sizeable community art collection from our artist- patrons, nurtured an art collecting public and most recently, established Canada's first public art museums for young audiences. As a visual arts catalyst in the community, we contribute to the development of a rich cultural aesthetic.

The continued growth and development of our acclaimed program in North Vancouver during the past 25 years also provides substantial documentation that quality art education in schools taught by art socialist educates, can significantly transform young lives, inform programming in schools and ultimately shape. A community in ways once thought unimaginable. It also clearly shows what can be accomplished in public education with commitment, understanding and engaged community support.​
