À propos

CaRaVaN Open Mic + Open Stage has been running at various venues since September 2011. Started by Ali Tataryn at the former Frame Arts Warehouse on Ross Ave. as a way for artists from multiple disciplines to gather and share, the weekly open mic has been a constant in the ever-changing Winnipeg arts scene, dependably taking place every Monday night despite the venues shifting or closing throughout that time (even going virtual for most of the past 18 months due to in-person gathering restrictions).

Using the slogan "Anything Goes", artists of all genres and skill levels are encouraged to sign up and perform. Over the years, many of Winnipeg's up-and-coming musicians, poets, comedians, storytellers, and visual artists have participated in the event -- some for a few weeks, some as regulars for many years. CaRaVaN has also welcomed a number of out-of-town artists, especially during the summer months at the Cube in Old Market Square. You never quite know what to expect week-to-week, and that's half the fun!

For our 10th Anniversary, CaRaVaN is putting on a partially-booked celebration at the beautiful Le Patio 340 in St. Boniface, where a selection of past CaRaVaN regulars will be featured alongside open mic spots available to anyone willing to put their name down and get up on stage. It should be an exciting day for those who've been a part of the community over the past decade as well as those who are discovering the open mic for the very first time.

CaRaVaN has always been a free event, but as always, we graciously accept donations -- for this event, all donations will be split amongst the booked artists.

(Following the new Provincial Health Orders that went into effect September 3, anyone participating and attending Le Patio 340 is required to show proof of vaccination.)

Organisateur

The Purple Room

The Purple Room began in March 2013 as a rehearsal and performance space in the back of Frame Arts Warehouse on Ross Ave. While that iteration of the Purple Room closed its doors in late 2015, the artist and community-driven ethos of the Purple Room lives on in events throughout Winnipeg.

The Purple Room continues to produce CaRaVaN Open Mic + Open Stage every Monday night, co-produces the comedy game show Pants on Fire, produces the entertainment at the Manitoba Night Market and Festival, runs the early summer Cake 'n Shake festival, and produces a variety of other music and comedy events at indoor and outdoor venues throughout Winnipeg.
