What began as a playful impulse to collect one object for each letter of the English alphabet has evolved into a deeper reflection on language, matter, presence, and the Cosmos.
The use of found objects and their arrangement mirrors the structure of a sentence, where each letter functions as an atomistic unit. The work invites viewers to consider how meaning emerges in the mind as these elemental parts are brought into relation.
"The hand, the fingers and the reversed glove" draws from a range of sources, including art-historical references, language games, and cosmological ideas.
Alejandro Tamayo is a Colombian/Canadian visual artist, writer, and arts administrator based in Windsor. Often taking a conceptual approach, Tamayo employs sculpture, drawing, photography, and installation as vehicles to reflect about contemporary modes of art production and systems of meaning. His work has been exhibited individually and collectively in Canada and abroad.
