À propos
Come join us as we dive into learning more about the Indigenous Culture!
In this special workshop and knowledge sharing event for Culture Days, families will have the chance to choose to interactively work with raw materials making mini-drum key chains, followed by a knowledge sharer who will be joining us at 1:30 pm. This knowledge keeper will be present to teach us what the importance of traditional practices mean to Indigenous people, and how their culture continues to keep these traditions alive today.
Participants will have the chance to participate in the keychain making and knowledge sharing, or just the knowledge sharing. All are welcome to join and partake whether you are Indigenous or not. Organized by the Barrie Native Friendship Centre.
Please note: A smudge will take place at the beginning of this event as per traditional practices within the Indigenous community.
Petranella Brisco is the Cultural Resource Coordinator at the Barrie Native Friendship Centre. She is Assiniboine and Nakota from Whitebear, Saskatchewan and the granddaughter of a Residential School Survivor. She was born and raised in Ontario and away from learning about her Indigenous culture until she was older. She is the face behind the idea for our October 6th Cultural day.
Not only is Petra passionate about her Indigenous roots and helping others learn more about their roots and spreading awareness, she also has a passion for art which has helped her reconnect and learn about her family’s Indigenous side/culture and help others. Her artistic media of focus are acrylic and watercolour painting.
