The Mapleton plaza palooza event will provide a fun and interactive experience showcasing the arts and culture of Barrie through our various diverse maker’s skills and services.

Attending our event, locals can expect live performances from Lisa Geroux; Executive Director at Shawanaga First Nation Healing Centre and Data Organa; a band local to Barrie.

We will be providing the community with information on the culture and history of tattoos and piercing along with hosting an interactive art piece on one large canvas that will be displayed at Ninja Cyborg Studio. There will be raffles, giveaways, free samples and vouchers from local small businesses. We will also provide a colouring contest / activity page highlighting the Seeds to sow with Barrie arts and culture, and much more.

What makes our event unique is our passion to educate/ provide insight into the history of tattooing and piercing in our community, emphasizing our roots and ancestors, while still bringing in a new and fresh perspective to the culture.

This activity is funded by the City of Barrie for Culture Days 2024.

Amanda Hashimoto

Amanda Hashimoto graduated from Georgian college with her Fine Arts Advanced diploma, Thompson Rivers University with her BFA Advanced Degree, obtained her Artists Foundations Education certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Arts, as well as her B.A.Sc. Psychology Degree concurrent with Education from Lakehead University.

Hashimoto has taught art classes through local galleries like the MacLaren art centre, the city of Barrie, local retirement homes, and more. She has taught individuals and groups from 1 years old to 90 +, with a wide range of styles and mediums. Hashimoto began tattooing professionally in 2015 and continues to work with the community with a strong hold to her cultural background. She is influenced and inspired by her roots, ancestors, and history. With the unavoidably advancing future we aim to learn and grow within the ever changing technological advancements, while still maintaining the respect and lessons from our origins.
