À propos

“Thenwedieatron” and “Portraitron 2300” are two interactive installations by Natali Leduc, Artist in Residence in Maple Ridge to 2022.

The “Thenwedieatron”, is a pyramid inflated by a bicycle-propelled fan and can be seen as a puppet/entity. Participants are invited to pedal the bicycle and enter the pyramid (through an ante-chamber). It tells the story of the ephemeral quality of life and the fragile relation of trust between people. This installation was made in collaboration with Matthew Gorgol.

Note: runs on Sept. 27 at Eric Langton School from 6:00-8:00pm.

The "Portraitron" installation is a mix of performance, kinetic sculpture, creative writing and invention. It consists in doing the portrait of participants on an electric typewriter that is deprived of electricity and modified in such a way that it is powered by a stationary bicycle. While the participant rides the bicycle, the artist creates his/her portrait on the typewriter.

Note: runs on Sept. 28 at the ACT Arts Centre from 11:00am-3:00pm.

Natali Leduc and City of Maple Ridge

Leduc has an academic background in Sculpture, French Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Houston, University of Ottawa and Rice University. She has taught sculpture, French language, literature and creative writing at the college level, as well as bookbinding and art bicycle workshops for at-risk teenagers. Natali creates objects and situations as solutions to real and imaginary problems, with a fondness for interactive contraptions, performances, and experimental puppet shows.

The Artist in Residence program provides an opportunity for artists to create arts based community engagement projects and activities in exchange for a live-work studio space at City owned. The program is supported through the Maple Ridge Public Art Steering Committee in collaboration with The City of Maple Ridge’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Department.
