À propos
Join us at the Rotary Centre for the Arts on October 12th from 1:30pm to 4:30pm for a free, fun day exploring the many art materials that exist all around us in the Okanagan. We will begin the day in the main atrium of the Rotary, where we will hear from artists and creators from different cultural backgrounds about the naturally-sourced substances they use to create their artworks. We’ll get to know more about these materials while learning about their history and discussing strategies for their ethical harvesting.
At 2:45pm, we will move into the Painting Studio where contemporary artist Mackenzie Perras will show us the final step of turning these unique local materials into paints. Guests will be encouraged to try their hand at making and mixing their own natural colours with additional materials generously provided by Opus Art Supplies Kelowna. Afterwards we will all gather to work on a large, collaborative painting inspired by the stories, materials, and ecosystems we’ve shared. We will have until 4:00pm to work together on our collective masterpiece, at which point we will all come together to thank all our guests and participants for sharing their stories, and the bountiful earth for providing our materials.
We acknowledge our presence on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded tm̓xʷúlaʔxʷ (land) of the syilx / Okanagan people who have resided here since time immemorial. We recognize, honour, and respect the syilx / Okanagan lands upon which we live, work, and play.
Special thanks to our community partners at the Rotary Centre for the Arts and Opus Art Supplies.
*This event is wheelchair accessible.
