What’s the Texture of Your Town?

This workshop invites participants to explore Glen Morris through texture, observation, and movement. Participants will take a guided walk through the town, noticing and recording surface details such as tree bark, building materials, door knobs, signage, and other everyday markings that often go unnoticed.

Using photography, participants will visually document the textures they encounter throughout the walk (various terrains approx. 30 minutes). Alongside this, they will create textured prints—using rubbing, printmaking, or transfer techniques, to physically capture the surfaces and impressions of places they visit. Together, these processes allow participants to record their day both visually and tactically.

Rather than mapping Glen Morris by streets or landmarks, participants will map their experience through texture. Each photograph and print becomes a record of where they’ve been, what they noticed, and how they connected with the environment. The workshop encourages slowing down, close observation, and personal interpretation, emphasizing that each participant’s record of the town will be unique.

Grounded in accessibility and participant led exploration, the workshop welcomes multiple ways of engaging with photography, printmaking, walking, observing, or reflecting; allowing individuals to experience and document Glen Morris at their own pace.

Kelly Dinsmore and Mischa Dinsmore

One of two organizers, Kelly Dinsmore, is an independent artist,photographer, program creator and facilitator for over 30 + years. She has experience offering mixed media art education classes (paint, wood, fabric, clay, metals, jewelry, paper-mache etc.) She demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering inclusive, welcoming spaces that support diverse participants. Through guided, participant led exploration, she encourages individuals to approach their art with an open mind. This approach empowers participants to take ownership of their work and complete meaningful projects that reflect both personal expression and skill development.

The second organizer, Mischa Dinsmore, is an independent artist and photographer and has facilitated “make and take workshops” for Early Child Educators, families and children. She regularly facilitates educational workshops in her professional life. She intentionally creates opportunities for all individuals to express themselves, using a disability informed lens that prioritizes accessibility, inclusion, and diverse ways of engaging, learning, and creating.
