16mm direct animation, collage, and scratch-off films are among the most accessible forms of filmmaking, being made without a camera and without developing chemicals. In this workshop, participants will get the unique experience to create an analog film by scratching, painting, hole punching, and collageing on black or clear 16mm leader. This yields vibrant and flashy results when the film is scanned or projected and each decorated frame combines into a moving image. I will introduce participants to the medium and demonstrate some of these techniques, and then provide each participant with a 5ft strip of either black or clear 16mm leader to create their own 15-second moving image with. The week after the workshop, participants will be emailed a scanned digital version of the film to share with family and friends.
