Hoof and Molar is a street opera that illuminates the ecological grandeur of the plains bison through a captivating fusion of music and spectacle. Created by the team behind the Nuit Blanche favorite Pollination Ceremony/Bee Parade, this performance features a dazzling herd of glowing bison dancing to an original composition by Jesse Krause.

Imagine David Attenborough attending Mardi Gras—Hoof and Molar captures that blend of natural wonder and vibrant celebration. In this 10-minute choral epic, the performance vividly recounts the vital relationship between bison and the tall-grass prairie, alongside the perpetual conflict between forests and grasslands. With its custom percussion instruments and the mesmerizing sight of glowing bison, this street opera harmonizes a deep love for the Manitoban wilderness with Winnipeg’s tradition of artistic flair and pageantry.

Riel Gentlemen's Choir and the Standing Mammals

The Riel Gentlemen's Choir has been making music under the direction of Jesse Krause since 2011. Their mandate is to celebrate the wonder and fragility of natural world, with an emphasis on our relationship to the Manitoban wilderness. It is a volunteer, un-auditioned choir that serves its members as a place to engage in the emotional honesty and vulnerability needed for choral music making. Recent highlights include Dreams of Nebuchadnezzar at the 2023 Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and their annual street opera Pollination Ceremony.

They are joined by the Standing Mammals, an ad hoc choir ready for any kind of musical adventure.
