À propos

Africa with the Masters (AWM) is a three-day bilingual multidisciplinary festival celebrating friendship through culturally relevant arts engagement, with the aim to spread joy through the beauty and transformative power of our cultural traditions and artistic expressions. The theme for 2024 is: Unity.

Events are free or very inexpensive to help us welcome the whole community.

We invite you to a series of activities, performances and culturally relevant arts engagements that honor the “Spirit of the Village”, promote friendship and respect, and welcome people of all backgrounds through music, dance, traditional kids’ games and storytelling. The activities are performed and facilitated by African Elders, knowledge keepers, and professional African artists.

The 2024 Africa with the Masters Festival schedule is:

1. Friday, September 27, 2024: Village Night, a concert presenting professional African artists and a sit-down dinner featuring dishes from African countries. 7 pm to 11 pm.

2. Saturday, September 28, 2024: Africa Play Day for families with free games, workshops, performances, and activities for children, facilitated by local African community associations. 10 am to 4 pm.

3. Sunday, September 29, 2024: Workshops open to the public and artists to study drum and dance traditions from Africa, with master artists of African descent. 10 am to 6 pm.

***This festival is made possible thanks to funding from Canada Arts Council and the City of Vancouver.
