PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION
Shannon’s original music dives deep into internal landscapes of dream, archetype and emotion. Her Culture Days performance will feature the synthesis of voice and harp through both improvised and composed music, inspired by and in collaboration with the land.
BIO
Shannon Kingsbury (she/her) is a singer, songwriter, harpist, music educator and mother. Her musical works include two solo albums, co-curating site specific performances for Spring Awakes! (Ignatius Old Growth Forest) with Sue Smith, composing/directing for Ondine Chorus, and co-creating The Heartbeat Project with Maya LaRose (recipients of Pay It Forward Arts Fund). Shannon delights in mentoring children, youth and adults through her teaching studio, Kingsbury Music.
Shannon grew up in a handful of small rural towns throughout Ontario and Quebec and was fortunate to be nurtured in both wild outdoor and multi-generational community spaces. These experiences fostered a great love of connection, care and beauty that would inform a lifelong commitment engaging with and facilitating the creative process. She is grateful to live and work in Guelph, Between the Lakes Purchase (Treaty 3), and is a passionate member of its vibrant arts community.
Throughout the day, visit the working art studio of visual artist Tina Newlove and see vibrant artworks in progress.
Tina Newlove, she/her, is a multi-discipline visual artist working primarily in oils from her Campbellville studio on the Treaty Lands of the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation. She graduated with BFA Honours from McMaster University in 1996 and has exhibited across Canada in public and commercial galleries and in artist-run centres. Tina was the designer and lead for a 33' mural, permanently displayed in the new foyer of the Milton District Hospital, depicting the Milton escarpment. Her work is in the City of Toronto’s Permanent Collection, is part of the City of Hamilton’s Public Art Walk Project and is in private collections internationally. In addition to her studio practice, Tina regularly collaborates via live performance painting with bands and musicians.
Enjoy a beautiful walk in the labyrinth. A circle maze cut into the front meadow with surprising impasses and natural sculptural elements . Bug spray and long pants are recommended - ticks and mosquitos.
