Learn more about Timmins/Porcupine's history and the Timmins Public Library's Local History Collection by taking part in our Culture Days Scavenger Hunt. Drop in at any time between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and pick up a questionnaire. You can work alone or as team to try answering as many questions as you can. Questionnaires will have hints on them, and you are welcome to ask Reference Staff for assistance.There is no time limit, but all questionnaires should be handed in by 4:30 p.m. Once you or your team are done, you can make a souvenir button to take home with you! You do not have to have a perfect score to make a button; all that matters is that you gave it your best effort. Discover something new from our past!

Timmins Public Library

Initiated in 1921, and opened in 1924, the Timmins Public Library serves the community with access to books, electronic books, audiovisual materials, literacy and learning programs for all ages from infant to senior, and access to computer workstations, 3D printing, Wi-Fi, study and meeting rooms, outreach services, and reading materials in alternative formats for accessibility needs. The library is also home to a large collection of books and other print materials documenting Timmins' history from the days of the Porcupine Gold Rush to the present. Every year, staff in the Reference Department answer several hundred history and genealogy-related questions from family members of past residents, in addition to the thousands of queries asked in-person on everything from finding a good book to read to technology assistance.

The library also has a sister branch, the C.M. Shields Centennial Library, opened in 1967 in South Porcupine, Ontario.
