Gather at Dalnavert Museum for a beading workshop with Laurie McDougall of Velvetleaf Beadworks. Born and raised in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis, Laurie's beadwork connects her to her roots and her journey of cultural reclamation. In this workshop, participants will be guided through creating a pair of earrings to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. Participants will have opportunities to learn about and share in Métis culture while coming together in the spirit of reconciliation, community, and cultural connection.
All materials will be provided. Spaces are limited. Please book online in advance.
This event is free, but non-Indigenous participants are encouraged to make a pay-what-you-may donation to the Indian Residential School Survivors' Society in lieu of workshop fees.
Please note, smudging will be available at the beginning of the workshop. If you have respiratory issues or allergies that may make smudging a barrier to your participation in this workshop, please contact [email protected], call 204-943-2835, or leave a note in the ‘Access Requests’ section of your booking.
