As an emerging abstract artist, I draw on my background as a graphic designer to create a visual language that is bold, dynamic, yet also deeply informed by my studies in yoga and shamanism. For over 20 years, I honed my skills in the world of commercial design, but it was through my personal spiritual journey that I discovered a new dimension of creativity.
I am interested in building a mark making repertoire that speaks to the viewer in coded language that is universally known. Our advanced digital world gives us novel ways of seeing, yet we still inhabit a day to day world that is changing rapidly. How do I convey that in the act of an abstract painting ? This is what moves me to make my art and sometimes drives me to experimentation with mixed media and assemblage.
My current series of paintings are a reminder of the light and color that lives all around us. They speak of information systems that are provided to us by our natural world— the wisdom of the trees, the mycelium network just below their surface. The communication between them that we are beginning to discover may be as advanced as our own, and the message we can receive if only we listen.
