Join us for an afternoon of story-telling, food, performances, author talks, cultural displays and more!

WE BELONG is a family-friendly celebration of Black, Indigenous, Caribbean and African Cultures. Over the course of the afternoon, there is something for the whole family: from children story-times, to an artisan market, to spoken word performances, and Indigenous Fancy Shawl dance demonstration.

WE BELONG is organized by Ancestral Voices We Belong, in partnership with the BWG Library and Cultural Centre.

Ancestral Voices We Belong is committed to celebrating the unique & diverse culture of Black, Indigenous, Caribbean, and African Creatives. Through our work, we amplify authentic voices, honor heritage, and embrace ongoing contributions and expressions across generations. Ancestral Voices We Belong is co-founded by Kim Wheatley and Maxine Gordon Palomino.

Kim Wheatley is an award-winning public speaker, event organizer, writer, ceremonial practitioner and Traditional Anishinaabe Grandmother, and Co-Founder of Ancestral Voices We Belong. She has over 30 years of experience providing Anishinaabe Consultation services. Kim’s intention is to serve those she collaborates with to provide authentic voiced supports, insights and truths.

Maxine Gordon Palomino is a storyteller, cultural curator, teller of Jamaican oral [hi]stories; and co-founder of Ancestral Voices We Belong. She tells worldwide stories, with a focus on folktales & cultural stories from Caribbean and African countries. Her training in Caribbean literature and storytelling have been integral to her role as host and organizer of cultural and author events. Maxine also practices law in Ontario and Jamaica.

The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library and Cultural Centre is a community gathering place providing access to knowledge, ideas and cultural experiences.
