À propos
Many of K’s compositions are derived from preliminary sketches observed from landscapes, some of which were inspired by the shoreline of Lake Erie, or even static images on TV monitors.
K manipulates painterly abstraction to translate the emotional and psychological imprints of fleeting experiences—from the places and spaces we’ve lived and dreamed in—onto canvas. K’s approach illustrates the artist’s intentional use of the painterly method as more than a means to explore memory and feeling, but in a way to achieve harmony and spiritual balance during the act of painting itself, similar to the conventions of the American action painters and Quebecois Automatistes.
Ultimately the work exists more as visual residue of painting as a form of prayer, and vice versa, than as a depiction of any concrete thing.
