September 18 - October 31 The Pitt Meadows Art Gallery welcomes award-winning contemporary artist Karen Goodfellow to a solo exhibition titled 'River Bends and Totem Ends', a collection of mixed media sculptures and paintings from Karen's pieces reflect the themes of the cycle of nature and wood as it relates to her mixed ancestry - colonial settler mixed with Katzie/Stó:Lō and Squamish ancestry. Goodfellow draws inspirationi from her fascination with the semi-frozen Similkameen River. Rivers, which are like veins carrying the life force, are depicted in some of her assemblages and are made by methodically building layers of various sands, pebbles, dyes, paints and inks to mimic river beds and it's flowing configurations. Her artwork is experimental, and yet thoughtful in her methods, use of found materials and in paying homage to her heritage and the nature that surrounds her.
