Ania Bogacka
Ania describes herself as an “unexpected artist” who veered into the world of visual arts from her previous career in writing and publishing. An avid DIY hobbyist dabbling in making clothes, furniture restoration and home renovations, she applies certain learned techniques from those pursuits to her art.
Growing up in communist Poland in the ‘80s with severe shortages of most basic things, Ania had no choice but to learn how to repurpose old items into new. This experience has shaped her to see the potential in everything and influenced her decision to create sustainable art by using reclaimed materials in her work, upcycling them into new art pieces.
The foundation of Ania’s artwork is the texture, which sets the tone for the colours and finishes. This heavy reliance on textures gives the ability to experience her creations through touch, in addition to sight. Through her work, she explores the themes of sunlight, nature, the intricacies of life, celestial bodies and the Universe, as well as explorations of concepts such as contrast, duality, unity, creation and movement. She is inspired by the metaphysical and spiritual, as well as the depths of the human psyche.
