À propos

Why do we collect and preserve objects? In a museum we collect for the same reasons that you might collect heirlooms or other sentimental items in the home. Keepsakes trigger memories, stories, or remind us of a specific place or time.

We don't always keep valuable items stored away, as they may be repurposed and utilized by new generations. A wedding dress worn by multiple generations of women, for example, has new memories and meanings embedded in the garment with each wear.

This video series examines how you can utilize your treasured items while taking steps to prevent deterioration and prolong their lifespan.

Follow along weekly for practical tips and solutions to be adapted for home use, with advice from museum professionals.

Mission Museum

The Mission Museum is operated by the Mission District Historical Society, a registered charitable non-profit society dedicated to “Recording our History, Educating the Community, Preserving our Heritage.”

The Mission Museum exists for the purpose of preserving the history of Mission by way of the collection, preservation, documentation, research and interpretation of three-dimensional objects related to our community’s history, and making it available to the public through exhibits, events and public programming. Our collection consists of over 10,000 artifacts which have been donated to the Museum by businesses, organizations and individual members of the community.
