À propos

People will have the opportunity to see inside one of the most uniquely designed historic fire stations in North America, Central Fire Station (popularly known as Central Fire Hall), built in the Edwardian Classical style and opened in 1920. The station retains many of its original features, including brass fire poles and master control panel for street corner alarm boxes and also houses a 1957 LaFrance Quad Pumper.

As well as the opportunity to see the station, there will be children's activities related to fire fighting, food, and the opportunity for visitors to hear stories related to the history of the station and fire fighting in Welland, as well as to record their own memories or reminiscences related to Central Fire Station.

Organisateur

Central Station Education Initiative

Central Station Education Initiative is a not-for-profit incorporated in Ontario whose mandate is to preserve and to educate about the material and cultural history of the fire, police, paramedic and other emergency services in the Niagara Region.

We are raising funds to restore and upgrade accessibility for one of the most uniquely designed historic fire stations in North America, Central Fire Station (popularly known as Central Fire Hall), built in the Edwardian Classical style in 1920.

The project will transform the Station, closed since 2007, to make it a multi-use community centre with a free public Heritage Display on the first and second floors. The Heritage Display, including original brass fire poles, master control panel for street corner alarm boxes and 1957 LaFrance Quad Pumper, will illustrate how the building was used for firefighting in Welland over its lifetime and include a Hall of Honour for first responders.
