À propos

The Art of Fibre event will be an opportunity for vistors to learn:

- How wool and other fibres are spun into beautiful bespoke yarn

- How yarn is woven and transformed into garments, household items, bags, rugs, etc.

There will be hands-on activities for children and adults. Try your hand at weaving on an Inkle loom or a table loom. Learn how you can use a simple stick or homemade spindle to spin yarn.

Members from the Niagara Handweavers and Spinners Guild will be on-hand to explain and guide you through he activities.

Niagara Handweavers and Spinners

The Niagara Handweavers and Spinners Guild had its first meeting back on September 9th, 1948. Our first members had attended the Ontario Government's "Community Programs" course in weaving and were enthralled with the craft.

Along the way, we have grown; Members now come from all over Niagara including St. Catharines, Port Dalhousie, Thorold, Jordan, Welland, Pelham, Fort Erie, Ridgeway,Grimsby, Port Colborne and Wainfleet. Beyond weaving, we support our members who are spinners, basket makers, dyers, knitters, and fabric artists of all kinds.

We are fortunate to maintain Studio, Library and Lessons space in the Trillium United Church in St. Catharines. Spinning and Weaving lessons are available to members and non-members.

Our annual Art of Fibre Show and sale in November presents handspun and woven items made by our members and by a select group of local artists and artisans.
