Taiko is a Japanese word that means “big drum.” Taiko drumming is a fun experience for all ages and is an integrated activity that combines elements of martial arts, music and dance. Join the Interactive Virtual Taiko Drumming Workshop and unleash your inner drummer!
1. Watch the DIY Drums at Home YouTube video.
2. Gather DIY Drums and Drumsticks for the Workshop.
3. Participate in a live ZOOM Taiko Basic Drills Drumming Workshop.
A DIY Drum from home can be a plastic tub, bucket, tote bin, cardboard box, mixing bowl, or pot. Alternately a DIY Drum Pad can be placed on a desktop to soften the impact and sound. A pillow, folded blanket or towel, mouse pad, chair cushion and yoga mat can work as Drum Pads. DIY Drumsticks can be rolled up paper, pencils, chopsticks, wooden spoons, plastic spatulas, or wood dowels.
Join in a live ZOOM Taiko Basic Drills Drum Lesson led by Uzume Taiko drummers! Participate from home using your DIY Drum and a pair of DIY drumsticks. This Workshop is free or pay-what-you-may.

The Uzume Taiko Drum Group Society was established in 1989 to create and present new works for taiko, especially in collaboration with other performers and to educate audiences about taiko music. Activities include the development and presentation of shows for elementary and secondary school audiences and workshops for people of all ages and the creation and public presentation of new cross-cultural taiko music and repertoire.
