About

The Cold Fear is an immersive exhibition that aims to magnify feelings commonly present in Paige Bromby’s paintings. The name is in reference to a poem from ‘The Spell of the Yukon’ by Robert W. Service which relays a reverence and fear of the Canadian wilderness.

Paige, a Guelph based artist, is interested in the complexities of entangled spaces. The intrigue of partially recognizable forms. Her tangled environments exist in the zone between landscape and abstraction. Branches and organic shapes overlap repeatedly to create a figure-ground reversal that suggests her paintings are deep in the brush, away from an orderly world, in a place where you aren't sure if the forest is protecting you or consuming you. More recently; Paige has explored themes of place, colonization and the condition of being an outsider in relation to her work.
