"The Art of Nurturing Nature" is something to celebrate on BC and World Rivers Day September 24, 2023. Hand painted wooden salmon will be on display near the Qualicum Beach Visitors Centre. This event will feature a hands-on paper fish decorating activity. All ages welcome.
Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Forage Fish Demonstration 10:00 am
What to expect: In this demonstration we will be walking you through the procedure we use to sample sediment from beaches and then process that sediment down to a small sample that will later be checked for eggs.
The eggs we are looking for are from two different kinds of forage fish: surf smelt and pacific sand lance. These small creatures play a critical role in upholding the integrity of pacific marine ecosystems by acting as a food source for a vast number of predators including other fish, mammals and sea birds. In this way, they help to move energy in the ocean from lower levels of the food web to higher levels, keeping our systems healthy and in balance.
“A Story of Beach Creek and Other Fish Tales” The next Chapter September 26-October 3rd. Wooden hand painted Salmon decorated by local youth and adults from the community. That begun their journey at BC and World Rivers Day September 24th. Will continue their spawning journey and will be on display in the lower lobby at The Town Hall Qualicum Beach in hopes to continue to educate and inspire visitors.
Please drop by our Town Hall of Quailcum Beach anytime during regular hours to view this inspiring art and learn more about the YELLOW FISH project too and the need for water and salmon conservation.
