About

Slavik - Slovak Folklore Society has been promoting Slovak culture through performances, events and traditional celebrations since 2011. Our primary focus is on the traditional dances and songs of different regions in Slovakia and we would like to take this opportunity to share that with our community.

Slavicek is our children's dance group for kids 3-12 years old. During classes, the children learn traditional dances and games from different regions of Slovakia.

Please join us in our dance workshop for children and their caregivers. For those wishing to learn more about Slovakia past dancing, the hall will be decorated with displays on Slovak cultural heritage. The workshop will be presented in English, so knowledge of Slovak language is not needed.

The event will be held at the hall next to the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Parish in New Westminster. As this is an active event, we recommend bringing comfortable clothing, shoes and a water bottle. Please be advised that caregivers must stay with their children for the duration of the workshop.

Slavik - Slovak Folklore Society

Slavik - Slovak Folklore Society has been promoting Slovak culture through performances, events and traditional celebrations since 2011. Our primary focus is on the traditional dances and songs of different regions in Slovakia and we would like to take this opportunity to share that with our community. The Society includes an adult dance group, a children's group Slavicek and the Slovak School in Vancouver.

We continue to represent the Slovakian community in Vancouver with performances and displays at festivals and by hosting community events celebrating Slovakian culture at the hall of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church in New Westminster, BC.

We are always looking for new members interested in keeping Slovak culture alive in Vancouver, please contact us via email ([email protected]) or facebook (https://www.facebook.com/slavikfolkloresociety) if you are interested in joining our ranks. Information on future events and performances can also be found on our facebook page.

Mission Statement: The purpose of Slavik is to teach, present, preserve, and perform Slovak folklore in the closest way to the authentic Slovak folk art in all areas, as is traditional folk music, folk dance, folk costumes, folk traditions and visual folk arts and crafts. And to support, serve and connect Slovak communities in British Columbia and give them and their descendants an opportunity to stay actively connected to Slovak cultural heritage.
