About

This acrylic painting class is all about Peonies and High Contrast! In this class we will discuss:

- how to transfer a reference photo to the canvas using monitors

- how to use a colorful background to add dimension

- how to create depth of values with color

- mixing and blending paint

- creating a soft background behind a subject

Supply List:

- 9x12in Canvas Paper (or equivalent)

- Acrylic Paint of your choice - I like Amsterdam Acrylics

- Water Jug

- Cloth

- Variety of Brushes (flat 1 inch brush, medium round brush, and thin detail brush preferred)

- Painting Palette (or the lid to a take out container!)

- Painter's Tape (if using canvas paper, Dollarama is a great option)

- Drawing Tote Board (if using canvas paper)

- Pencil, Coloured Pencil

- Charcoal Transfer Paper/Tracing Paper to transfer drawing with ease onto canvas

- Acrylic Glazing Medium for “crispy” edges when pealing off your tape (optional)

- Computer Monitor for transferring technique (optional HDMI cable and TV screen)

Cori Jaye Ettienne is a visual artist, teacher, mentor and mental health advocate from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her artistic practice consists of vibrant surrealist, pop-art paintings that she utilizes to spread positive messages to the community. Cori Jaye has been featured on CBC and CJOB Radio, CTV and Global Television, as well as many podcasts speaking about her career as an artist and the importance of following your dreams. She leverages her background in Marketing, Graphic Design and Digital Media to promote the power of positivity, using social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Patreon as catalysts. In addition, Cori Jaye conducts social media literacy workshops, as well as private mentoring sessions, to help share knowledge about how to navigate the ever-growing online sector. Currently, she is creating online acrylic painting classes for the Winnipeg Art Gallery, combining her love of painting and teaching, while staying connected to the community during these unprecedented times.
