About
Bounce, Rock and Groove with Mel Hart in this fun and dynamic class that explores the foundations of hip-hop movement that can help you feel more at ease at your next social dance event! A warmup of grooves will start the class, followed by hip-hop basics and a combination danced to a classic song! All ages and levels welcome!
Mel Hart is an established dance artist from Scarborough, Ontario with a Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in Dance from York University. Mel co-founded SaMel Tanz, a contemporary dance collective with Samantha Schleese and produced works for the Toronto Fringe Festival, Breakin’ Convention, Next Stage Festival, Dance Made in Canada/ Fait du Canada Festival and Summerworks Festival. Mel is also a member of Hip Hop dance crew DEUCEnDIP, who established themselves on MuchMusic’s NML Dance Battlez and performed on stages for Manifesto, WE DAY, Canada’s Walk of Fame and World Pride. Mel has danced for international artists such as Jason Derulo, Sean Paul and the legendary Black Thought of the Roots and opened for Latin artists such as Bad Bunny, Prince Royce, and Gente de Zona.
This workshop is part of the Dance Together Festival York Region, taking place during Ontario Culture Days 2023. It is free for participants, thanks to the generous support of the Richmond Hill Community and Cultural Grant Program. Presented in partnership with the Dance Together Project, Assembly Park, York Region Arts Council, City of Vaughan, City of Richmond Hill and Richmond Hill Public Library.

Dance Together Festival
The Dance Together Festival offers free open-air workshops and events that celebrate positive and accessible dance experiences. Join us for styles including Vernacular Jazz, Latin Fusion, Cuban Salsa, West African, Indigenous Contemporary, Vogue, Hip Hop, Soca and Inclusive Dance. Open to all ages, levels and abilities.
