Jackie Han is the winner of the 2020 Richmond Hill Arts Award for Youth. He has been passionate about creating origami models since he was six years old.

Jackie hopes that his love and passion for origami could be transformed into his community service impetus. His goal is simple--to let more people love origami, enjoy origami, and enrich their life experience. This is why he founded a special and professional art organization-Origami Canada, a widely free mobile origami teaching station for kids, parents, for seniors in our communities. He engages the community by promoting the traditional art of origami!

During the COVID pandemic, he has also set up multiple virtual platforms of outreach delivery that enthusiasts can enjoy in the comfort of their homes. Jackie would like to let everyone know that in addition to computers and games -- there is an amazing world of fun and creativity to be found in one uncut piece of paper! Let’s go Origami!

Origami Canada

Origami Canada is a non-profit organization founded by Jackie Han, it’s a free mobile origami teaching station dedicated to promoting the art of origami to children, youth, parents, and seniors in various community activities/events. The organization was founded on the motto of “no borders”, as its core intention is for individuals of all cultural backgrounds and ages to enjoy origami equally.

Throughout the creation and development of the organization, many origami enthusiasts have been attracted to join the Origami Canada team. The squad has extensively participated in and organized more than 150 various workshops(in-person or online) over the past 5 years. Origami Canada has instructed origami and promoted the art to over 50,000 people in various activities and locations such as various cultural events at libraries, leisure sessions in retirement residences, lessons at schools, multiple festivals for the York Region cities, etc.

Notably, Origami workshops were shifted online at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jackie and his team hosted various free teaching classes online. The Origami Canada YouTube channel was created as an auxiliary learning resource for the team to reach more Canadians and international enthusiasts during that difficult time.
