About
In partnership with Edmonton Opera and UofA's Métis Settlement Life Skills Journey Project, we invite you to join us for performances of Cree songs, opera arias, and fiddle music in commemoration of Orange Shirt Day. The event will be hosted by CBC Radio Active's Adrienne Pan and include an Indigenous Artisans market, crafts for children, and bannock & tea. All are welcome. Orange Shirt Day takes place each September in honour of the children and families impacted by the Indian Residential School System.
This event is made possible through a grant from the Government of Alberta.

Edmonton Opera & UofA's Métis Settlement Life Skills Journey Project
Edmonton Opera brings the community together through meaningful artistic experiences that celebrate our shared humanity. Founded in 1963, Edmonton Opera is dedicated to producing great performances that showcase the powerful emotions of opera to our community. Each season, we challenge ourselves to present familiar favourites in imaginative new productions and feature repertoire that audiences rarely get to experience live. Beyond the stage, Edmonton Opera is committed to making opera accessible, exciting, and meaningful for our diverse community.
The Métis Settlements Life Skills Journey program is a community-grounded life skills training program that focuses on substance use/misuse and bullying prevention through building resiliency. Since 2013, it has been implemented with over 350 children aged 7-14 from seven Métis Settlements: Buffalo Lake, Elizabeth, Fishing Lake, East Prairie, Gift Lake, Peavine, and Kikino. We have had the pleasure to work with over 66 facilitators, 60 of whom have come from these seven Métis Settlements!
