About

Are you curious about Nigerians, a growing community you see around you in Yorkton? Do you wonder what their ways, customs and food may be like?

Here’s some good news, Culture days are happening here in Yorkton and this event is on October 12th 2023 from 3pm to 9 pm!

You can defy the custom of needing an invitation to attend an event, just pre- register and show up for this Nigerian event!

"Mo Gbo Mo Ya! Nigeria in Crafts, Cooking, Dance and Glam is an invitation to embrace and feed your curiosity with simple delightful experiences at these interactive culturally informed activities common to Nigerians.

Participants will engage in make and take craft with popular Nigerian fabric, such as the Ankara and Aso-oke, learn different Ankara head wrapping styles, watch a cooking demonstration of one of Nigeria's favourite meal combination, Jollof Rice, Dodo and Suya, learn a short drumstick choreography dance to Nigerian music, enjoy short stories woven into the evening, meal sharing or take out of the prepared food. We will wrap the evening up taking a keepsake, Glam 360 degree selfie video clip with the crafts and head-tie you made from the day.

Culture and heritage are fundamental to everyone's identity, sense of belonging in a community, as well as boosts physical and mental health.

“Living in a vibrant community gives people a sense of belonging, which reduces the risk of mental health issues, lowers heart disease mortality, and contributes to better overall health (Ontario’s Alliance for Healthier Communities (AHC).

Nigeria has many vibrant cultures and celebrates community!

So for about 6 hours of your time, come and engage with the Nigerian Culture right in your own community of Yorkton.
