About

"Write for Your Life" is a chance to get your thoughts on paper in a relaxing and friendly environment surrounded by fellow creatives from the area. We will gather as a community and go through a series of prompts that will result in a beautiful, comedic, heart warming, or powerful poem. There will be a dedicated time to share or perform your poem with the other participants. This is a perfect activity for those aged 12 and above who are bookworms, musicians, writers, and storytellers (shout out to the introverts and wallflowers!). Did I mention a FREE Poet Pocket for those that register beforehand?! Come on out and create a little written treasure for yourself or someone you cherish! Can't wait to see you there!

Note: The venue is wheelchair accessible. Although there will be some movement involved, all abilities are welcome! We encourage you to do what feels most comfortable for you. Feel free to contact us ahead of time if you have any concerns or accommodations you might require.

Lewis.theArtist

Hello all! I am glad you are curious about this activity! My name is Lewis. I am an artist, poet, and performer. I was first introduced to Spoken Word when I was 14 and it was one of the best moments of my life! I found a new way to express myself freely, through the written word. Sometimes, poetry is made of beautifully written thoughts. Sometimes, it is powerful and resonates with you. Sometimes it is downright hilarious! I love how versatile poetry can be and how quick and easy it is to write one down based on one's experiences, journey, and emotions.

As a professional poet and artist, I am currently planning and developing a Showcase Program coming next year, Spring/Summer 2024 called "The Poet's Project". This Culture Days activity, "Write for Your Life", is a teaser to next year's project. The focus of my artwork and community engagement is to develop an open space for appreciation and celebration of Black culture while creating a non-judgemental space for those with disabilities; one that is considerate to required accommodations. As a Black woman with a disability, this is a gap that I have identified in the creative community of Simcoe County. Therefore, I hope that I may find wonderful people like you who would like to be part of this mission as well!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am always open to discussing any needs you might have no matter how small. Thank you for dropping by and we hope to see you at the event!
