About

Bharatanatyam, is an Indian classical dance It is indigenous to the Tamil Nadu region and prevalent in southern India. Bharata natyam serves the expression of Hindu religious themes and devotions, and its techniques and terminology have been traced back to ancient treatises such as the Natya-shastra.

Students of Abhinaya School of dance (formerly known as Abhinaya Performing arts Centre) will be representing Nine forms of Dura/ Parvathi Through Bharatanatyam.

Durga: "Durga" also know as "Shakthi" is a Hindu goddess whose name means ‘impassable,’ or ‘ invincible.’ She is known as both nurturing mother, and vengeful warrior. Although the Hindu pantheon includes a number of goddesses, Durga is particularly popular, and holds special importance for many Hindus. Durga is worshipped in Hindu temples across India and Nepal. Her temples, worship and festivals are particularly popular in eastern and northeastern parts of Indian subcontinent during Durga puja, Dashain and Navaratri

Navdurga which means Nine Durga is the manifestation of Durga in nine different forms. The concept of Navdurga originates from Goddess Parvati. Conceptually Navdurga is the life phase of Goddess Parvati who is considered supreme power among all Goddesses. Navdurga are worshipped during Navrati (nine -nights) in the month of October.
