About

Michael Camilo Saari

Symbiotic Symphonies explores the human tendency to prioritize negative stimuli and prompt reflection on one's relationship with their surroundings and how it affects their experiences. As someone who has struggled with severe anxiety and asthma, the artist has experienced firsthand the weight of uncertainty and constant struggle. Through interactive biomorphic sculptures, this artwork creates an ecosystem of anxiety that encourages viewers to engage with their environment and contemplate their own struggles, promoting empathy and connection. The goal is to foster a greater sense of compassion and understanding about the human condition through contemplation and dialogue.

In his artistic practice, Michael Camilo Saari explores the convergence of technology and the human experience, with a primary focus on comprehending the intricate social, emotional, and biological dimensions of the human condition. Through the medium of interactive and kinetic sculptures, Saari facilitates introspection and stimulates discourse around these intricacies. Employing a diverse array of techniques and cutting-edge technologies, including robotics and digital fabrication, he constructs artificial life forms that symbolize these multifaceted human nuances in an accessible manner. Saari's creations afford him the opportunity to contemplate his own humanity and relationships, and he aspires for them to serve as a conduit for individuals to engage with and ponder their personal experiences and emotions. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Virtual Heritage Informatics at Indiana University, Saari holds a B.F.A. and B.A. in Art &Technology and Arts Management from The Ohio State University (2019) and recently completed his M.F.A. in Digital Art at Indiana University (2023). He is also part of the UITS-RTV Advanced Visualization Lab at Indiana University, offering support to researchers, faculty, and students in the realms of 3Ddigitization, advanced visualization & displays, and virtual &augmented reality experience.
