About

DJ Skool is a free DJ workshop for youths within the ages of 17 and above to learn how to DJ for free. It is an opportunity for folks who are looking to learn the basic components of DJ’ing and to explore a new skill that they can leverage to earn income in the future. This will also be a great opportunity for them to network with other local creatives with common interests. Each workshop will b set up to host up to 3 participants.

These workshop sessions will be facilitated under the guidance of local Creative - Entrepreneur, Artist, and accomplished DJ, Chance Mutuku. Since these workshops are free, participants will be provided with all the tools necessary in order to develop their spinning skills - all that needs to be brought is a passion for music and learning.

This event will run over the course of two weekends and will be hosted at the NAC Studio Workshop. The workshop itself will consist of a two part breakdown. The technical basics and the business of the art. The technical basics will consist of a brief rundown on the history of DJing, and technical aspects of the art, including but not limited to basic mixing, transitions, and curating event playlists. And moreover, the business side of Djing will provide tips and tricks on how to get clients, sharing mixes online etc. Aside from learning the fundamentals of DJing , participants will be given the opportunity to produce their own unique mixes, and walk away with a new party trick up their sleeve. Our goal for this event is to not teach young people about DJing but we also want to equip them with a new skill that they can leverage to create income and creative opportunities for themselves.
