About
Have you always wanted to write a song? This workshop will be geared to those who are interested in songwriting fundamentals, and those in the early stages of their songwriting habit.
Using examples, we'll dissect the parts of a song and what their purpose is; look at different song forms; discuss what makes a strong lyric; give common chord progressions that you can start from; and where to begin with your song ideas.
Have a notepad handy. Suggested age range 14 years and up.
Led by: SaskMusic's Lorena Kelly
Studying keyboards at Professional Musicians’ College, as a vocalist/keyboard player/songwriter/artist Lorena has toured across Canada, the U.S. and internationally, both with her own projects and as a freelance musician backing up dozens of different artists. Lorena has led numerous workshops and written articles on songwriting and marketing, and has served on juries for The JUNO Awards, Canadian Country Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, Saskatchewan Arts Board, and Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings, to name a few.
