About

Presented by Williams Lake and District Credit Union

The Nuxalk Nation is a small Indigenous community from various locations within Nuxalk Territory. Nuxalk Territory is made up of Bella Coola, Dean Channel, Kwatna Inlet and South Bentick. Nuxalkmc have been the stewards of this land for thousands of years.

The inherent strength of traditional knowledge provides the basis for physical, emotional, spiritual and physiological health and well being.

A small group of singers and dancers, led by Tara and Lance Nelson, have dedicated themselves to learning and keeping Nuxalk traditions and culture alive. Tara and Lance are talented artists who teach at Acwsalcta School and perform traditional songs and dances at many ceremonies in Bella Coola. Karen Anderson is a cultural keeper, storyteller, and highly respected leader for the Nuxalk Nation. Karen has been a powerful teacher of the Nuxalk language and tradition. She has continued to encourage the practice of her traditional songs and ways of life, inspiring others to do the same.
