About
The outcome of the project is to create a large-scale poppy display to be mounted to the front of the Sault Ste. Marie Museum for Veteran's Week 2023.
This display will feature poppies made by veterans, community members, youth, and associated groups with the Museum and will be installed on a large net to be mounted on the front of the building. Identified groups for this project are The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 25, 49th Field Regiment, Lady’s Auxiliary, and local cadet groups as well as members of the community.
A series of workshops will be planned to engage these groups to create poppies and encourage oral history/history sharing and recognition of service. The Facilitator Kimberley Pelletier Sagidjiwegjig will ensure that participants are able to complete a poppy during their visit. Requests for poppies made by individuals outside of workshops will be made.
The Sault Ste. Marie Museum Design and Engagement Lead will also utilize the Museum’s digital recording equipment to capture some of the stories shared by these groups working together.
This project will cumulate with a commemorative event during Veteran’s Week and any information (such as oral histories, shared photographs, documentation of the project) will be hosted on the Sault Ste. Marie Museum’s website.
