About

This project has been adapted into a digital experience - check it out at the Instagram link below!

Throughout the month of September, there will be free weekly drop in events at ArtsJunktion and we’ll be creating kits to distribute, with materials to create from home with. These will be the frames that will come together to create an animation that Matea will create. The dancing animation is a reflection and an homage to community. Each frame and figure will be totally unique and handmade! When they are brought together, they will create a single figure who will shape shift as it dances, connecting all the beings into a singular dancer. The animation will be as vibrant, energetic and dynamic as the community of ArtsJunktion!

There will be a soundtrack created for the animation by a local musician/DJ who will also perform live at Nuit Blanche Winnipeg.

On top of being an excellent example of an homage to community, this will also be a celebration of reclaimed materials.

The project will utilize outdoor space, with capacity limits and physical distancing measures in place. (Hand sanitizer will be available on site.)

Organizer

Illuminate the Night - Matea Radic

Each year, an Open Call is held for artists to propose pieces that will enhance the audience experience of Nuit Blanche Winnipeg through the Illuminate the Night program. Projects are selected by a jury of artists and art professionals and are featured in Winnipeg’s downtown core.

This is a call inviting artists working in all artistic mediums to submit projects- performance artists, installation artists, textile artists, graphic designers, media artists, architects and general creative thinkers – with a performance, exhibition or installation that will enthrall, excite and possibly introduce Winnipeggers to something they have never seen or experienced before.

Matea Radic is an artist and animator living in Winnipeg, MB. Her drawings and animations are filled with dark humour, soft bodies and fast lines. Her work explores themes of suppressed trauma, reconciliation and the idea of home. Matea also runs animation workshops that encourage and facilitate collaboration in a time based format (life). She is a hopeful cynic.
