About

"The SALVAGED Project" by Kim Leckey (aka Sea Woven) explores the creative efforts that local artists, organizations, and individuals are pursuing to combat marine debris waste on the West Coast shorelines of Vancouver Island. In partnership with Surfrider Pacific Rim, Long Beach Lodge Resort, and Tourism Tofino, Kim provides community members of Ucluelet and Tofino BC the opportunity to learn about the problems caused by marine debris pollution in the ocean and on shorelines. In August 2022, Kim hosted a 'Marine Debris Scavenger Hunt' beach clean as part of Surfrider Pacific Rim’s Wash Up Wednesdays. Later that day, with the debris found on the clean, Kim taught participants how to take trash and turn it into treasure with a Sea Woven Buoy-bee workshop. This video features interviews with local Tofino environmental artist Pete Clarkson as well as Sophie Peters and Laurie Hannah of Surfrider Pacific Rim. Thank you to Strait and Narrow and Blackberry Cove Market Place for their additional support with this project.
