About
Municipal Council has designated September 28 as “National British Home Child Day” in support of a national campaign designed to help preserve and highlight this important part of our history. The Port Hope Town Hall clock tower will be illuminated from September 25 - 28 and the entire Port Hope community is invited to join the Municipality in becoming a beacon of light by turning on your porch light on September 28. The Beacon of Light initiative is organized by the British Home Children Advocacy & Research Association; an international organization which strives to catalogue and tell stories to reconnect families unjustly torn apart by migrant programs. The Beacon of Light is a global initiative and symbolic gesture of illuminating memorials, monuments, and buildings to show that these children are not forgotten.
