About

Join Gloria Beckman as she teaches us how to make Medicine Bags and their significance. These are no sew bags and are perfect for little hands. Supplies is limited, but knowledge is infinite. Please register at the event table for a time slot, or stand by and absorb the knowledge from an amazing local Cree artisan originally from Treaty 6 territory.

Organizer

Culture Days Manitoba

Culture Days is a national initiative to celebrate and raise awareness and appreciation for arts and culture in Canada. Established in 2009, Culture Days supports thousands of organizers every year to produce participatory arts and cultural programming in hundreds of communities across the country. These efforts culminate with the Culture Days weekend, annually taking place over the last weekend of each September. In 2023 Culture Days celebrations will happen September 22nd-October 15th. Please join us!

Since the first cross-country Culture Days, Manitoba has been a leader in both the number and diversity of activities provided, and in attendance on a per capita basis. We are also leaders in best practices, driving the delivery of planning and marketing workshops for rural and northern communities throughout the Province and contributing to the development of a national Culture Days handbook that encourages participation of schools and students.

In Manitoba, Culture Days incorporated as Culture Days Manitoba Inc. in January 2013. Our mission is to celebrate the diversity of Manitoba’s arts and culture sector in all regions and communities of the Province. Nuit Blanche Winnipeg is produced by Culture Days Manitoba in collaboration with the Winnipeg Arts Council, Producing Partner. It is a free nighttime exploration and celebration of contemporary art that takes place on the opening Saturday of Culture Days. Core Winnipeg areas including St. Boniface, the Exchange District, Downtown and the West End will be illuminated by art installations and performances pieces.

Since 2009 Manitoba has seen a substantial growth of 175% in registered arts and cultural activities as well as growth in attendance. Culture Days has made a difference in Manitoba by showcasing and celebrating the diverse artistic and cultural talent across our province—in communities as far south as Morden to as far north as Churchill, in small venues and galleries dotted across the province to venerated arts institutions—giving access to all citizens, regardless of age, location or experience, to participate.)

Culture Days Manitoba and Nuit Blanche Winnipeg will feature hundreds of free cultural events for Manitobans in all corners of the province. Indigenous artists and traditional knowledge sharers, established and emerging artists—citizens across the province are ready to share their passion with you. Please join us and thousands of other Manitobans as we celebrate and share — whether through online workshops for students, soapstone carving in Flin Flon, Dauphin’s Yardfringe or Illuminating the Night at Nuit Blanche – and you will find something that amazes, inspires or simply brings a smile to your face.
