About

*Update: We're going to nudge this event to Sunday morning for a more promising weather outlook.

Richmond Artists Guild and the plein air group Men in Hats invite you to try painting outside in the first of our three events for Culture Days. Locations have been selected to introduce you to surprisingly scenic, Unexpected Intersections spanning our community and allow a variety of subjects for everyone. Painters and spectators have plenty of space to respect a 2m/6’ social distancing margin. Please respect each others' space and remain at a distance. No instruction but plenty of inspiration, all mediums and ages welcome.

Area: The riverside boardwalk at River Rock Casino

This riverfront location offers a marina, tugs plying the river with log booms, arching bridges in each direction and a visually interesting industrial gravel pit just across the water. Excellent for misty perspectives, transit access, with lots of parking and space to spread out.

Those who’ve never tried painting outdoors may want to bring either an easel and painting/drawing materials or a chair and sketchbook or mobile device with a sketching app. Please dress appropriate for the weather, allowing that you feel cooler standing still. Consider a hat and sunscreen for sunny days, a mask if it’s smoky, paper towels or wipes for your hands, water and a snack. Please respect the places we’ll be visiting and leave nothing behind.

There’s no registration, check in or fee, but as with all events during COVID, please stay home if you are feeling any symptoms, have been travelling or in contact with anyone who may have been infected. We also recommend downloading Canada’s COVID Alert app to your mobile device, as this tracks contacts and potential exposure without any personally identifiable information. Download it free at https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/covid-alert.html
