About
Reading to Wellness with “In My Own Moccasins” will be the inaugural event of the North West Friendship Centre's ongoing book club.
Participants will come together to eat, craft bookmarks, talk and be given a book club bag that includes a copy of Helen Knott’s “In My Own Moccasins.” This powerful memoir has been described as “An unflinching memoir of addiction, intergenerational trauma, and the wounds of sexual assault from a resilient, emerging Indigenous voice." (www.uofrpress.ca) Due to the heavy content and difficult issues explored in the book, a mental health therapist will be present to explain triggers and provide suggestions for self-care while reading.
The group will meet again on October 13 to share food and drink and to discuss the memoir. Information on the ongoing Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Wellness Book Club will be provided for those interested in further participation.
Register for this program with the Meadow Lake Library any time after September 2.
