About

Internationally renowned Canadian photographer Amy Friend is asking for community participation as part of her exhibition and installation, Assorted Boxes of Ordinary Life. The exhibition and installation of ordinary objects is happening at the Thames Art Gallery, Chatham, ON. Friend’s journey through this body of work began with the inheritance of a small collection of objects stored away in a box. The objects in the box were assembled with care as keepsakes or mementos of a life now gone. Even if the circumstances that brought them together were now past or unrecognized the objects suggested stories that wanted to live on in the artists own imagination as both fact and fiction.

Amy Friend and the Thames Art Gallery invites you to bring your object, along with one line of text to the gallery for display. *Object will not be returned. Exhibition runs Sept 9 - Nov 5, 2022.

Amy Friend works with family photographs, super 8 film and found objects to explore the rich ambiguities of the life we inhabit, searching for clues to our sense of identity and our ability to acquire greater purchase on the ground beneath our feet.
